U.S. Coast Guard Thanks Sea Tow A.C. For Answering Call

April 26, 2000

Dear Mr. (Capt.) McLaughlin,

Yesterday, at approximately 1:00 pm, we received a distress call from the vessel Transit III. The vessel reported that they were taking on water, and were beached on the south end of Brigantine. When our Coast Guard vessels arrived on scene, it was obvious that we would need assistance in dewatering the vessel. Without hesitation your crew: Eric McLaughlin, Joe Whitmore, and Nick Mariano, assisted us in this case. With the two pumps you provided, the five pumps we had, and the eductor from the CG41335, it still took three hours to control the flooding.

You have always been quick to assist us when other mariners are in distress, regardless of the chance of compensation. Your assistance yesterday may have helped avoid a pollution incident in the event the Transit III would have sunk. The crew and I would like to thank you and your crew, for assisting us in this case.

Sincerely,
R.W. Condit
Lieutenant, U.S. Coast Guard
Commanding Officer
